The Cheoah Bald Salamander is but one of several salamander taxa that are significantly rare with a limited range. Furthermore, of those taxa, it may be one of the better protected because of it's location withing Nantahala National Forest and the added layer of protection provided by the Cheoah Bald Inventoried Roadless Area on top of that. This is not to say that we shouldn't be concerned with the Cheoah Bald salamander, but to say that pygmy salamanders, Weller's salamander, the crevice salamander, green salamanders, and probably other taxa should receive just as much attention.
