Improve/promote/support/develop/encourage logger/landowner education to increase and improve the implementation of forestry BMPs within the Central Appalachian CBA, specifically those that reduce siltation and address steep slope impact

Participate in the discussion forum to share ideas and provide feedback about practical actions that companies can take to promote positive impacts on forest management, and reduce the risk of procuring wood from forests where important ecological values are threatened.
The forum is organized by each Regional Meeting with each Specified Risk Topic listed under each meeting:
-
Asheville (Appalachian Region)
-
Atlanta (Southeast/Mississippi Alluvial Valley Regions)
-
Portland (Pacific Coast/Rocky Mountain Regions)
I like this idea. Much like providing BMP information to suppliers, this can be implemented immediately, and be effective. Most landowners want to do the right thing, when faced with the knowledge of what that right thing is. Many loggers too. Information is available and able to be disseminated at a fairly broad level. For the first bite of this project, it'd be a good one to take.
Resounding "yes" to education for loggers and landowners, both in new ways of dissemination information and improving existing programs. Most landowners want to be stewards of their land and do what’s right, but perhaps don’t know exactly where to start. They are hungry for information, particularly small family forest landowners. Loggers work closest to the land – their operations directly impact, whether positively or negatively – the water quality and soil. There are lots of resources and materials available and ways to make them easily accessible.
This is a great idea. I agree that this needs to be directed at loggers and landowners.
