Jul 26, 2018Here is a possible mitigation option suggested by technical experts for the Native Longleaf Pine: Through the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation or through the Longleaf Alliance, develop a fund that will help to fill the gap created when there are more landowners willing to plant and manage Native Longleaf Pine Systems then there are cost share dollars available. Typically, at the end of the annual funding cycle, there are landowners who have prepared lands for planting Longleaf Pine, but the cost-share funds have run out, so they plant Loblolly Pine instead. These efforts would reduce the rarity and conversion to Loblolly Pine of Native Longleaf Pine Systems.
